GREENING DEVON CATEGORY WINNERS WERE OTTER BREWERY

The name, ‘­Otter Brewery’, suggests a company committed to protecting wildlife and the environment. Set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, at the heart of the Blackdown Hills, this family-run business is dedicated to making fine beers while doing exactly that.

Sustainability plays a key role at every stage of the process from the water for the beer that is sourced from the head springs of the River Otter to the effluent treated through reed beds. The family has been determined to make the buildings as energy efficient as possible whether it be the state-of-the-art Brewhouse or the restoration of redundant buildings. The employees, who all live locally, take their meals together with the family around the kitchen table where lively conversations include plans to transport the beer by biofuels.

Otter Brewery is not just a fine beer but a great winner of the “Greening Devon” award.
