Cricklepit Mill
The August visit by DEBI members and corporate supporters took us to Devon Wildlife Trusts (DWT) new offices in Exeter, Cricklepit Mill. Cricklepit Mill has been restored and extended and old meets new with a timber-framed and glass faced office space, built to high environmental standards and tapping in to natural energies for ventilation, power and waste water. The newly extended building now houses many of the 60 DWT full time staff.
We were shown round the building by Tracy Ebbrell and given details of how the derelict building was brought back to life. There had been a mill on this site since medieval times and the two 19th century watermills have been lovingly restored by traditional millwright Martin Watts, one of which is used on demonstration days to grind wheat, the other it is hope to be used to generate electricity for use by the offices. .
The evening finished off with some refreshments and networking. DEBI is very grateful for DWT arranging this interesting evening which was enjoyed by all.
