2012 DEBI Visits
We are in the process of planning our 2012 events which promise to be varied and interesting. Please watch this space for further information as we roll out our plans for this year. As always our visits are open to corporate supporters and members of DEBI, the visits are a great opportunity to learn from others, find out what has worked and what hasn't and also offer a chance to network with like minded businesses who operate in Devon.
2011 DEBI Visits
7th April - Plastic Surgeon, Bovey Tracy, Overall Winners of the 2010 DEBI Awards![]()
Overall winners of the DEBI 2010 Environmental Awards, DEBI were delighted to visit Plastic Surgeon. Plastic Surgeon carries out fine finishing and cosmetic repairs for construction, house building and homeowners, offering them a solution to have repairs done economically rather than replacing with new. In turn this has diverted waste from landfill and has enormous economic benefits to their clients. DEBI were given a demonstration of the type of work they and it was great opportunity to see a company addressing environmental issues in a number of ways.
9th June - Crickelpit Mill, Exeter we will also launch the 2011 Awards at this visit
Cricklepit Mill is the headquarters for Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT). The building was transformed from a fire damaged derelict building to offices, with DWT moving in, in August 2007. The mill has been painstakingly renovated by traditional millwright Martin Watts and last year a hydro electric plant was installed enabling DWT to generate electricity from the leat running under the building. The waterwheel and platform has become home to otters and these are being tracked on the waterwheel webcam. Cricklepit Mill houses interpretation, exhibition areas and a wildlife garden. In addition to the renovation DWT have also had an extension built and old meets new with a timber-framed, sedum roofed and glass faced office space, built to high environmental standards and tapping in to natural energies for ventilation, power and waste water.
Our visit finished with networking and canapés and the launch of the 2011 DEBI Environmental Awards.
30th June - Churston Farm and Tradiitonal Farm Shop, nr Brixham, category winners of the 2010 Food, Farming and Fishing category
DEBI Award winners Churston Farm and Churston Farm shop scooped up the Food, Farming and Fishing category awards in 2009 and 2010. DEBI were delighted to visit Churston Farm where Caroline and Richard Haddock showed us around their farm and an area of land they are restoring which has been heavily farmed for the last century. We also visited their traditional Farmshop, Cafe and Garden Centre where we were able to find out more about the ethos of what they offer and sample their food.
The evening was inspirational and we all left feeling like we had visited something special.
13th October - Exe Estuary Boat Trip, Topsham - sponsored by BCR Associates and Pebblebed Wines, both corporate supporters of DEBI
DEBI will be boarding the Sea Dream Ferry at Topsham to see the wonderful flocks of birds which are an inspiring sight on the Exe Estuary. Lasting about an hour and a half we will make our way up river accompanied by James Chubb from East Devon District Council, and hopefully we’ll see cormorants, oyster catchers and may be avocets! We will return to Pebblebed Wine Cellar for a warming bowl of soup and a chance to network with other DEBI Members.
Numbers for all the above visits are limited. To book your place, please telephone 0845 257 3324, or email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it )
